Wordmatter is a small London-based consultancy providing software documentation and digital publishing services to clients large and small, and leadership, organisational, and people development consultancy and coaching, primarily to clients in the public and not-for-profit sectors.
We work as individual consultants or contractors on diverse projects with a wide range of client companies, organisations, and individuals. For larger projects we can assemble a dedicated team from our wide network of associates.
Ben works primarily with software development teams writing documentation for software systems and advising on documentation tooling, workflow, build, and publishing.
Mobile and web technologies continue to converge. Ben’s current and recent contracts include documentation for mobile network semantic modelling tools (EXFO), web APIs and microservices (Travelex, Digital Catapult), web content and publishing backend systems (Squiz, Nature Publishing), and pure mobile content development (HTML5 and hybrid and native Android apps and games, EPUB digital publishing).
Ben's background is in mobile development and technical writing, and he has worked across the sector from industry giants present and past (Vodafone, Samsung, Nokia, Sony Ericsson) to a host of smaller mobile app startups and agencies. Ben began his mobile career at Symbian, where he spent ten years as it grew from startup to leading mobile OS of the early 2000s.
At Symbian he wrote the Symbian OS Architecture Sourcebook and contributed to many other Symbian Press books. His book for Samsung was the first official developer guide to the short-lived bada mobile platform, since merged with Tizen.
