Wordmatter is a small London-based consultancy providing software documentation and digital publishing services to clients large and small, and leadership, organisational, and people development consultancy and coaching primarily to clients in the public and not-for-profit sectors.

We work as individual consultants or contractors on diverse projects with a wide range of client companies, organisations, and individuals. For larger projects we can assemble a dedicated team from our wide network of associates.

Software, Documentation, and Publishing

Ben works primarily with software development teams writing documentation for software systems and advising on documentation tooling, workflow, build, and publishing.

Mobile and web technologies have converged, and "big data" and "AI" concepts have become a universal substrate. Ben’s current and recent contracts include documentation for semantic data platforms for telcos (EXFO, IntentHQ), web APIs and microservices (Travelex, Digital Catapult), and web content and publishing backend systems (Squiz, Nature Publishing). Back in the day, life was more about pure mobile content development, native or otherwise (HTML5 and hybrid and native Android apps and games), and digital publishing for web, EPUB and Kindle. And way back when, it was about mobile OS and platforms.

Ben has worked across the sector from industry giants present and past (Vodafone, Samsung, Nokia, Sony Ericsson) to a host of smaller startups and agencies. Ben began his mobile career at Symbian (or Psion Software, as was), where he spent ten years as it grew from startup to leading mobile OS of the early 2000s.

At Symbian he wrote the Symbian OS Architecture Sourcebook and contributed to many other Symbian Press books. His book for Samsung was the first official developer guide to the short-lived bada mobile platform, since merged with Tizen and probably somewhere in your Samsung Smartwatch or even your Samsung TV.

Between times you'll find Ben growing grapes and making wine at Cascina Giron in Piemonte, Italy. And you can find his own writing at Thief Press.
